“What must be remembered, what must be repaired, what will reconnect?” - Susan Raffo
One day, perhaps, from birth, we will start - and continue - living with more attunement to the fullness of life, both individually and collectively. When this happens we will feel safe to show ourselves with all our quirks and brilliance and follies; we will have lots of green space; we will live more purposefully; we will rest well AND we will work well.
We can see these beautiful possibilities in glimpses all around us (in books, in good organisations, in kind families, in supportive neighbours and friends, in helping hands and inspiring coalescences, in wild spaces and creatures that re-wild unlikely places), and we know it - to our bones - inside ourselves through our feelings. We can see and feel the opposite too. (I recently made this video about the biomechanics of stress - how it feels … this has long been my focus in healing work .. heres the video)
If we continue purposeful mending of our selves, and our relationships, and our teachings, and our care of the environment the emergent change we hope for can get its roots in the ground and push through powerful as an army of dandelions and plantain that will break the concrete.
I sometimes think my present circumstances are tricky. Sometimes I think they’re entirely wonderful.
I see evidence of the mess I’ve made. And I see evidence of the beauty I have cultivated.
Yesterday I was sent a burst of brilliance in the form of a book suggestion (the quote above, Susan Raffo, from her book ‘Liberated to the Bone’, is the one I refer to). I see hope for great healing and change in the ideas presented in this book, just like I see it in bursts here and there. My circumstances may and have in the past, fallen/fall apart, but maybe, thank goodness. Because there is brilliance to be found. And I, am realising, I have been absent from brilliance as my companion, and I would like to reconnect with brilliance - both other peoples, and, my own.
Again and again the two guarachilla wrens lands in the nest outside my window with insects in their mouths for the hatchlings; I get an unexpected message connecting me to a new friend; doors open; the lime tree grows fruit where last year there was none. Blessings. Many. I notice the blessings purposefully because there are many and they provide an opening to beauty, and courage to take a step towards something kinder and better for me, for my children, for my work, for the reach of my work to others, and for the land. Do you notice them too? Your blessings.
Here, is to brilliance, and blessings.
Look at the moon and the fire flies and listen to the crickets singing
If you can’t find your voice of strength look and listen for others who can be that for you
Watch the birds who visit you, learn their song so you know when they’re near, even when they’re hidden in the trees
Read words that lift you - good words are sunshine for the soul
With love,
Lucy
p.s. One on one movement medicine coaching with me is available through the summer. Just drop me a message. Its healing movement that helps you access the feeling of being well, being in balance as well as learning how to balance places that feel bound/tight/restricted and injured. Message me if you want to know more about this.
p.p.s. Here's a video I made about the biomechanics of stress (this is what I teach/treat in movement medicine work)
