Hi,
For me 2024 began brightly like a perfect night sky full of twinkling stars. I had the feeling this was going to be the season of things coming together. A week into January I messaged a friend in New York and she told me I was the only person she knew who was excited about 2024. I frowned. Five minutes later my cleaner messaged to tell me she had Dengue and was in hospital. I thought, okay… poor her…. I’ll do the cleaning this week. An hour later, on the road to dropping off my son to school, my tyre blew and I was stuck for a few hours dealing with that. Then at the end of the day I heard a seventeen year old kid had thrown a rock at one of my neighbours (and slapped him with a machete), after being firmly told not to hunt on the nature reserve that surrounds my country lane. I was asked to inform all the rest of the neighbours and do some peacekeeping around the issue.
Life is bumpy.
Good things, random things, bad things, beautiful things all happen in a chaotic cluster without being well organised on the time line we hope to plan our lives on.
Sometimes (always actually) when things get hard I check in and ask myself is this still the day to day work, and way of living I choose fully? Am I still doing ok? Are my kids doing ok? Am I doing enough to resource myself for the hard things?
The answer, for me, is yes. Sometimes it’s yes after a big sip of wine or a trip to the beach for a surf to wash off the dust of the day.
And the night sky stars are still twinkling.
Today I found a tiny tree frog amongst the vanilla plants and a new chick hatched and a humming bird has been outside my window drinking nectar from blossoms on the lime tree while I have been writing this post.
Last week I sold my first teak trees and made a few hundred dollars and I was excited about that. Last week I found a big lump in my body that freaked me out (I’ve had it checked it’s ok). Last week I taught my favorite weekly class (more info here if you’d like to join - - it’s a beautiful movement class for women) and met a couple of lovely new people I’m glad to now be connected to. Last week I took joy in planning my kids wild and wise nature classes and deciding what,
in this 8 week series, we will do because the kids are pretty serious about making fairy houses and potions.
And the night sky stars twinkle bright.
With love,
Lucy
